Periodontal Treatment in Palm Springs

Created by Korawan.M

Periodontitis is an elaborate word but more commonly known as gum disease or periodontal disease. Some frequent causes of gum disease include hormonal changes, serious illnesses, certain medications, bad habits such as smoking, poor oral hygiene habits, and family genetics. In terms of simplicity, Periodontitis is when gingivitis (advanced plaque build-up) is left untreated, and there is a continual increase of bacterial growth in your mouth, your condition then can advance into periodontitis. This is a consequential condition because it causes pockets or spaces to form in between your gums and teeth. If these spaces start to collect debri than the patient is more vulnerable to infection. If left untreated bacteria/plaque can spread below the gum line, which releases toxins that can threaten the bone and connective tissue that hold the teeth in place. As a result, if left untreated the risk of tooth loss will increase.

Signs of Gum Disease:

  • Bleeding gums during or after brushing teeth
  • Red, irritated, or swollen gums
  • Potent bad breath
  • Receding gum line
  • Spaces/pockets between teeth and gums (result in loose or shifting teeth)
  • Molars are common teeth subjected to this disease

Prevention

Fortunately Periodontitis is absolutely preventable when the correct oral hygiene habits are practiced. I give you the Four R’s:
